Research

Cathy is a design researcher and she works collaboratively with artists, designers, academics, external partners and industry across a range of disciplines both in the UK and internationally. Her most recent work is investigating ways in which creativity can support wellbeing and her research has included AHRC funded collaborative projects with the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, University of Technology Sydney, University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde, Coventry University and Birmingham City University.

Cathy is Director of Research at HUG by LAUGH™ a company that is partnered with Alzheimer’s Society UK to deliver HUG™, a product designed to provide comfort and reduce anxiety for people living with advanced dementia. Research behind HUG™ can be found here

Cathy was one of the founder members of CARIAD (Centre for Applied Research in Inclusive Arts and Design) at Cardiff Metropolitan University. She has led a number of research projects that are finding innovative ways to support the wellbeing of people living with dementia. Her recent projects include; LAUGH Empowered PSCI; LAUGH (Ludic Artefacts Using Gesture and Haptics); Sensor e-Textiles; Dementia Aprons;  i-Magine, and Making a Difference.

Her previous research projects include: Designing for Dementia, Hand e-craft, Shorelines, Present, HAPTIC, Walk and Draw and Permission to Play.
