Walk and Draw

Self-narrated walks have been found to promote positive emotions and so enhance wellbeing. This investigation is looking at how walking and drawing might contribute to wellbeing and is part of the AHRC Connected Communities funded project: Urban Flows; Connections, Shared Environments and Environmental Flows – how local walking interventions induce community positivity in urban locations which is a collaboration with Birmingham City University.

An expert group of artists have provided a series of case studies to investigate the ways in which the combined activities of drawing and walking can support subjective wellbeing. The first stage of this research was presented at the Well-being 2013 Conference at Birmingham City University and an exhibition of drawings from the research at the Drawing In Between Symposium, HEA, Howard Gardens Gallery, July 2013.
